Welcome

I SEND YOU WARM GREETINGS AND WELCOME YOU TO MY WEBSITE.
-Joc Anderson

Most of us consider ourselves to be religious people, but what exactly do we mean by religion?  More often than not, our focus is on the institutionalized rather than the personal.  The thoughts I’ve recently set to paper take a good many cues from so-called organized religion, particularly from the Bible.  However, throughout, the book’s focus is on our personal relationship with God.

My book is titled:  “The Author of Love-Understanding a misunderstood God”.  However, equally significant is the book’s subtitle:  “Understanding a Misunderstood God”.  The Christian image of God runs the gamut.  At one extreme is a disciplinarian-in-chief, who literally scripts every step we take and who metes out punishment to those who stray.  At the other end of the spectrum is a creator, who, having sculpted the universe we inhabit, sits on the sidelines as we go about the business of enchancing our world or mucking it up, as the case may be.

The rather misunderstood God we’d like to introduce you to is neither of these characters.  He is neither indifferent nor meddlesome.  He is non-judgmental.  His love fo us is undiminished by our transgressions.  He loves the faithful, and He loves the sinner.  He is, after all, the Author of Love.  His love is boundless.  It is eternal.

This is certainly not the first book that has endeavored to better acquaint us with our Creator.  What I hope will set this work apart from others is that it is a devotional, consisting of 366 (leap year, 2012) brief, but topical, discussions.  Each stands on its own, but I genuinely believe that the cumulative impact will be to thoroughly acquaint you with a God who, over the decades, centuries, and millennia has been misunderstood.

And now for the pitch…..You may purchase my book, “The Author of Love-Understanding a Misunderstood God”  directly through this website or through the publisher, Westbow Press.  (Merely click on the link, purchase.)

While it was certainly NOT my intention in writing this book to stir up controversy, I made it a point throughout not to duck some of the more difficult issues of the day.  Oftentimes, it is the inability to cope with such issues that has caused many to stray from God’s path.  I do not claim to have answers to all of these issues, but, at minimum, I have endeavored to frame the issues in a way such that it should be apparent that one need NOT suspend common sense in order to forge a relationship with God.

Among the issues are:

  • Some maintain that the Bible is out-of-step with the times.  Do we need a newer New Testament?
  • Does the Bible condone slavery?
  • Does the Bible condone the subjugation of women?
  • How do we define inter-marriage?  Does our faith permit it?
  • Is homosexuality a sin?
  • Do we truly believe that sins such as adultery are worthy of capital punishment?
  • Are so-called “acts of GOd” truly acts of God?
  • Why is it that bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people?
  • Do the Ten Commandmnets depict an insecure God?
  • What happens to righteous people of other faiths?  Just because they were born in non Christian lands, will they be excluded from God’s kingdom?
  • Where was God during the Holocaust?  During 9/11?
  • How should we respond to those who claim that God is dead?
  • Is God a jealous God?
  • Why don’t we witness as many miracles as in centuries past?  Has God tired of doing miracles?
  • Why have so many of the most conspicuous religious figures (a good many televangelists, for example) fallen?
  • If God created the heavens and the universe, why doesn’t the BIble speak more about other planets, solar systems, and galaxies?
  • Is science antithetical to faith?
  • If God knows the beginning and end of everything as well as all that is in between, is He nothing more than a very talented puppeteer?  Do we truly have free will/choice?
  • The Bible is replete with examples of what would appear to be God’s seeking revenge; yet we are told that He is not vengeful and that, furthermore, He is the Author of Love.  Is this a contradiction?
  • Some regard the Bible as historically accurate in its entirety.  If that be the case, which reporters were covering the Garden of Eden on that fateful day when Adam and Eve partook of the forbidden fruit?
  • Why does it seem that organized religion breeds so much intolerance, particularly in view of the fact that “the Guy in Charge” is referred to, at least in this book, as The Author of Love?
  • Why is that much (perhaps most) of history is a series of accounts of wars that originated as a result of religious differences?  (Some refer to this as the “my god is better than your god” syndrome.)
  •  Why do we, our predecessors and those who follow us have to pay for the sins of a couple of people (Adam and Eve, of course) we have had nothing to do with?
  •  Should we only “hit God up” for the important “stuff”?  Should we spare Him our less urgent issues?
  • Why is it that so many prayers seem to go unanswered?
  • Is it true that God has sanctioned divorce?
  • Is there anything that is too difficult for God?
  • Jesus tells us that He is coming soon.  To some, it seems that “soon” is taking a very long time.  How soon is soon?
  • Supposedly, the end time will come when all acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord.  is it realistic to believe that this will ever occur?
  •  What, if anything, is the difference between faith and religion?
  •  Faith, hope, love-is any one more important than the another?

If at least a few of the preceding issues or topics are of interset to you, I would urge you to purchase my book by clicking on the word purchase.  It is my sincere hope and prayer you will learn to know and understand the Author of Love.  When you “taste and see how good” God really is, you will “love Him more than life”.

GREETINGS to all my readers out there.  It’s been over two years since I posted on my website.  I have been terribly busy working on a second edition of my book; “The Author of Love-Understanding a Misunderstood God.”

I have painstakingly revised and revamped every page.  Keeping the main focus on God and His love for us.  Below is an advertisement I will be using during the holiday to sum up the SECOND EDITION-2014 of The Author of Love.

“The Greatest of these is LOVE”

Just in time for holiday giving.  The Second Edition of this 365-day devotional will introduce you, your family and friends to a God, who has been frequently miss-characterized over the centuries.  This 2014 Second Edition will acquaint you with a God who is, contrary to what many would teach, non-judgmental, a God whose very essence is that of love.  Each page has been revised and boldly highlighted to underscore how much God loves you, a love that is unconditional and without reservation.  I’m thrilled to finally produce a book that portrays a God who is truly the Author of Love.

At the end of the book, there is a test to measure, not your I.Q., but rather your L.Q., your love quotient.  You will find these questions to be both challenging and provocative.  Over the course of our lives, each of us will confront many or most of the circumstances that the L.Q. test reveals—just not in one sitting or one day.  What follows is a sample question:

# 19.  You know that your friend is having an affair.  However, his wife does not know.  Everyone in the community knows of the affair.  You feel an obligation to:

Say nothing.  It’s none of your business.

Tell him if he doesn’t confess to her, you will tell her.

Send your friend’s wife a signed note, telling her of the affair.

Tell her of the affair.

The complete L.Q. test is at the end of the Second Edition Book of The Author of Love, 2014. Included are the test answers and Key to interpreting your score.

If this book of devotionals has a central theme, it is that God’s love for you is not based on any single culture, upbringing, experience or even religion.  God loves you…..period.   However, His love for you will be incomplete until you reciprocate by evidencing your love for Him.

I would like to know more about your book.

  3. Do you address the femaleness of God in your book? If not, then you are not truly discussing all the attributes of God! For God is also female! Humans have gendered God to be male only, and no thought or study is ever done on the femaleness of God! That is God’s gentle, nurturing, and life-producing side. God does not have sexual organs, and so most people cannot fathom a God that has female attributes as well; however, the Bible CLEARLY equates God to a female in MANY passages. There is a disservice done to truly “knowing” God when this aspect continues to be ignored and pushed down. It is an offense to a God who is not housed solely by male terminology!
